Before begining on a trek up Mount Bisoke there are an factors to keep in mind. Firstly it’s essential to be, in condition as the hike is quite demanding and requires stamina and endurance. While prior hiking experience is recommended it’s not mandatory.
While you don’t need a gorilla permit for the hike it is necessary to obtain a hiking permit from the Rwanda Development Board, which oversees the parks in the country. It’s advisable to book this permit in advance during peak season.
Moreover all tourists must be accompanied by a guide from the Rwanda Development Board. These guides possess knowledge about the terrain, plant life, wildlife and are trained in emergency response procedures – ensuring both safety and an enjoyable hiking experience.

Time for Hiking Mount Bisoke
Mount Bisoke is open for hiking throughout the year. However the favorable time to go is during the season, which usually spans from mid December to February and from June to September. During these months the trails are less muddy. There is a chance of rain.
Although the dry season offers hiking conditions some adventurers prefer the season due to its vibrant surroundings with lush vegetation and abundant birdlife.
Moreover the wet season tends to be less crowded providing a tranquil experience. Nevertheless be prepared for challenging circumstances such as trails and potential rainfall during this time.
Itinerary for a 2 Day Tour Package to Hike Mount Bisoke
Day 1; Arrival in Kigali
Upon your arrival, at Kigali International Airport your tour guide will warmly welcome you. Escort you to your hotel. Take this opportunity to relax, rejuvenate and prepare yourself for an exciting tour
On the day you’ll begin on a hiking adventure, to Mount Bisoke. To kickstart the day you’ll be chauffeured from Kigali to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park in Kinigi. There park rangers will provide you with information and instructions before commencing your hike.
The tour commences at the parks boundary, leading you through fields until you reach the bamboo forest. As you ascend further you’ll encounter vegetation zones like Hagenia woodland and Senecio near the summit. Although its quite steep the effort is well worth it as you may spot wildlife such as monkeys, buffalo and a wide array of bird species.
The absolute highlight of this trek is undoubtedly reaching the Crater Lake atop the volcano. Take some time to soak in its beauty before making your descent to base camp where your driver will be eagerly awaiting your return.
Once you’ve completed this hike for the day we’ll drive you back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule there may be an opportunity for some rest, at your hotel. Perhaps even exploring landmarks in Kigali like the Genocide Memorial Centre before bidding farewell.
