Location of Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is situated 140 km south of the capital city Nairobi and it is neighbored by Tanzania. This park covers a total land area of 392 sq km and the neighboring area is inhabited by the nomadic Masai people who translate ‘Amboseli’ to ‘salty dusty place’ in their local language. There are 5 gates that enter into this park, and these are: the Airstrip gate, the Kulunyiet gate, Iremito gate, Meshanani gate as well as the Kitirua gate.

The Amboseli area experiences 2 rains seasons every year, the long rains come for only 2 months starting in March to the end of April while the short rains that start in November to the end of December also fall for only two months resulting into an average amount of rainfall between 200mm and 700mm.

On a clear day, you can be able to clearly see the towering Mountain Kilimanjaro right from the park. This is a very breathtaking view as a background to a number of the stunning wild animals which can be seen here. Wildlife in Amboseli National Park
