Day 1; Welcome to Nairobi
We are excited to have you in Kenya! After your arrival, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our representative will warmly welcome you. Take you to your hotel in Nairobi. There you will have a climb briefing and spend the night.
Day 2; From Nairobi to Old Moses Camp
We will drive from Nairobi to the Sirimon Park Gate (2600m). Once we complete the park formalities we will begin on a hike through the montane forest bamboo covered areas and rosewood uplands until we reach Old Moses Camp (3300m). During this 3 4 hour trek keep an eye out for wildlife such as buffalos, antelopes and monkeys.
Day 3; Old Moses Camp to Shiptons Camp
Todays trek takes us through the Ontulili Valley where we’ll be treated to breathtaking views of high altitude vegetation and the majestic peaks of Mount Kenya. After a 6 7 hour hike we will arrive at Shiptons Camp (4200m) nestled beneath the icy spires of the mountain.
Day 4; Shiptons Camp (Acclimatization Day)
This day is dedicated to acclimatizing ourselves with the altitude at Shiptons Camp. We’ll take walks during the day either towards Kami Camp or Hausberg Tarn. Along, with helping us adjust better to the altitude these walks offer panoramas of Mount Kenya.
Day 5; Trek To Point Lenana
From Shiptons Camp we’ll start our day before dawn for a trek to Point Lenana, which’s the third highest peak of Mount Kenya, at an elevation of 4985m. Our aim is to reach there in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise. After that we’ll descend to Mintos Hut (4200m) where we’ll have dinner and spend the night. The entire trekking duration will be around 11 12 hours.
Day 6; Trek To Gorges Valley
We’ll continue our tour by descending through the Gorges Valley, which is known for its cliffs, gorges and remarkable geological formations. It will take us 6 7 hours of trekking to reach Meru Bandas Camp (2950m) where we’ll enjoy dinner and a deserved rest.
Day 5; Trek To Chogoria Village
On this day we’ll have a trek of 2 3 hours as we make our way towards Chogoria Village. There we’ll connect with our transfer vehicle that will take us back to Nairobi marking the end of our Mount Kenya adventure. Before heading to the airport for your tour you might even have some time, for souvenir shopping. Exploring the city.
This itinerary spans six days. Provides a mix of difficulty and acclimatization increasing your chances of reaching Point Lenana successfully.
Keep in mind that the process of acclimatization can differ for each person and its important not to underestimate the difficulty of the trek. This climb is most suitable, for individuals who’re physically fit and have some experience, with trekking.
