Murchison Falls NP
Kulu Ora Tented Lodge opened in early 2026 as the newest property in the Wild Places Africa portfolio, and it immediately established itself as one of the most boldly positioned and conceptually distinctive lodges in Murchison Falls National Park. The site was discovered by the Wild Places team after cutting a path through kilometres of untamed bush with machetes, and the landscape they found was so unusual and so beautiful that it demanded a response: a lodge built to allow a small number of guests to experience this hidden corner of the Nile as it has always been and as very few humans have ever seen it.
The lodge takes its name from the Alur and Luo words for "river," a reference that connects the property to the deep cultural history of the people who have lived alongside the Nile in this part of northern Uganda for centuries. Kulu Ora sits in a newly designated low-use area of Murchison Falls National Park spanning 400 square kilometres, ensuring that the wilderness surrounding the lodge remains genuinely untrampled. The Nile at this point splits around a jungle island, creating rapids whose sound carries across the camp and whose mist touches the tents in the early morning hours.
The tented accommodation provides the comfort and quality expected at the exclusive luxury level while maintaining the organic connection to the surrounding landscape that defines the Wild Places philosophy. Canvas walls, quality beds, private outdoor areas with river views, and personalised service from a small and dedicated team create an atmosphere that is simultaneously comfortable and genuinely wild. The dining and social spaces are designed for intimate gatherings in the bush, with fire pits and open-air settings that make the most of the extraordinary natural amphitheatre of the Nile at this remote bend.
Wildlife in this part of the park includes the full savannah community of Murchison, but encountered in conditions of complete vehicle isolation: no other tourist vehicles enter this zone, and game viewing therefore carries a quality of private discovery that is increasingly rare across the continent. For travellers who understand that the most compelling safari experiences are those where genuine wilderness is accessible without compromise, Kulu Ora represents the leading edge of what Uganda's safari industry can offer.
