6 Days Birding in Rwanda

Day 1; Arrival, in Kigali

When you arrive at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda our representative will warmly greet you. Take you to your accommodation. Take some time to rest and get used to the environment.

Day 2; Exploring Nyungwe Forest National Park

begin on a tour to Nyungwe Forest National Park, a rainforest known for its birdlife. Spend the day engaging yourself in the parks landscapes, including forests, bamboo thickets and marshy areas. Keep an eye out for bird species like the Great Blue Turaco Red collared Mountain Babbler and Rwenzori Turaco. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the presence of Albertine Rift endemics found here.

Day 3; Birdwatching Adventure in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Dedicate this day to birdwatching as you explore trails and viewpoints within Nyungwe Forest National Park. Accompanied by a bird guide discover an array of avian species and learn how to identify them. Look out for birds like the African Green Broadbill, Rwenzori Nightjar and Handsome Francolin. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the forest as you appreciate its surroundings.

Day 4; Discovering Lake Kivu

tour onwards to Lake Kivu – one of Africas Great Lakes – which serves as a sanctuary, for waterbirds.

Begin your day by engaging yourself in the beauty of the lakeshore and nearby wetlands where you’ll have the opportunity to observe bird species, like the Pied Kingfisher, African Fish Eagle and the White winged Tern. Enhance your experience by taking a boat trip on the lake allowing you to get up close with the birdlife while enjoying views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 5; Akagera National Park

On Day 5 make sure to include Akagera National Park in your birding adventure. This incredible park is situated in Rwanda. Offers a captivating mix of savannah plains, woodlands and lakes that provide a rich habitat for diverse bird species. Keep an eye out for birds such as the Fish Eagle, Grey crowned Crane and Lilac breasted Roller. Additionally Akagera is known for its array of raptors, like the Bateleur Eagle and Martial Eagle.

Day 6; End Of Rwanda Safari

As Day 6 arrives it’s time to bid farewell to Rwanda after a tour. Enjoy breakfast before heading to Kigali International Airport for your departure.
