Day 1; Arrival, in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After arriving at Kigali International Airport you will meet your guide who will accompany you on the tour to Volcanoes National Park located in the part of Rwanda. This park is renowned for being to the population of mountain gorillas in the world and is approximately a 2.5 hour drive from Kigali. As you make your way take in the rolling landscapes that Rwanda is famous for with its lush hills and valleys that have earned it the nickname “Land of a Thousand Hills”.
Upon arrival at the park settle into your lodge nestled at the foot of the Virunga Mountains, which offer views of the surrounding lush scenery. Take some time to acclimate to the altitude and prepare yourself for the gorilla trekking adventure that awaits.
Day 2; Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Evening in Gorilla Village
Kickstart your day with a breakfast before heading to the parks headquarters for an orientation on gorilla trekking protocols. Accompanied by guides and trackers venture, into the slopes of Virungas as you search for these majestic mountain gorillas. The duration of this trek can vary from 2 to 7 hours depending on where these incredible creaturesre moving within their habitat.
Once you come across the gorillas you’ll have an hour to observe them in their surroundings. An experience that will stay with you forever.
After your trek make your way back, to your lodge for some deserved rest and relaxation. In the evening prepare yourself for a tour at the nearby Gorilla Village. Here you’ll have the opportunity to engage with community members and gain insight into their lives, traditions and customs. Get ready to be entertained by music and dance performances by the Iby’Iwacu cultural troupe. A true highlight of exploring this culturally rich region.
Day 3; Kigali – Departure
Make sure to visit the Caplaki Craft Village where you can find Rwandan souvenirs. Take some time to explore sites within Kigali. Your guide will then drop you off at Kigali International Airport in time, for your flight marking the end of your 3 day adventure experiencing gorilla trekking and engaging yourself in Rwandan culture.
