15 Days Birding in Rwanda

Day 1; Arrival, in Kigali

When you arrive at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda our representative will warmly greet you. Take you to your accommodation. Take some time to relax and get used to the surroundings.

Day 2 3; Exploring Akagera National Park

Kick off your bird watching adventure by visiting Akagera National Park, located in the part of Rwanda. Spend two days engaging yourself in the parks habitats, which include savannah plains, wetlands and woodlands. Keep an eye out for bird species like the Shoebill Stork African Fish Eagle and the elegant Grey crowned Crane. You’ll also have a chance to spot raptors such as the Bateleur Eagle and the mighty Martial Eagle.

Day 4 – 5; Discovering Nyungwe Forest National Park

begin on a tour to Nyungwe Forest National Park, a rainforest that’s truly a haven for bird enthusiasts. Spend two days exploring its forests, bamboo thickets and captivating swampy areas. Keep your eyes peeled for species like the stunning Great Blue Turaco or the elusive Red collared Mountain Babbler.. Don’t forget about sighting the Rwenzori Turaco! Nyungwe Forest is also renowned for being to Albertine Rift endemics—a true paradise for any passionate birdwatcher.

Day 6 – 8; Embracing Lake Kivu

Make your way to Lake Kivu—a body of water known as one of Africas Great Lakes—. Prepare yourself for an enchanting experience, with waterbirds.Spend three days engaging yourself in the beauty of the lakeshore and nearby wetlands where you can catch glimpses of bird species, like the Pied Kingfisher, African Fish Eagle and White winged Tern. To get a experience with these feathered wonders and enjoy picturesque views of the surrounding landscape begin on a leisurely boat trip across the lake.

Days 9 – 11; Discover Volcanoes National Park

Spend three days exploring the parks enchanting bamboo forests and higher elevated areas to spot birds such as the Rwenzori Batis, Rwenzori Double collared Sunbird and Ruwenzori Nightjar. While your focus remains on birdwatching there’s also a chance to encounter mountain gorillas during a gorilla trekking expedition.

Days 12 – 14; Embrace Rugezi Marsh and Ruhondo Lake

Venture into the part of Rwanda where Rugezi Marsh and Ruhondo Lake await your arrival. Over three days immerse yourself in these captivating regions that attract an array of bird species. Keep an eye out for birds like the Papyrus Gonolek, White winged Swamp Warbler and African Marsh Harrier. Engage in tranquil walks along marshes and lakeshores while indulging in birdwatching activities.

Day 15; Departure

After enjoying a breakfast bid farewell to Rwanda as you make your way back, to Kigali International Airport for your departure home.
