Day 1; Arriving in Kigali
When you arrive at Kigali International Airport, in Rwanda our representative will warmly greet you. Assist with your transfer to your accommodation. Take some time to relax and get accustomed to the surroundings.
Day 2 – 3; Exploring Akagera National Park
begin on a birding adventure by visiting Akagera National Park, which is situated in the part of Rwanda. Spend two days engaging yourself in the parks habitats, including savannah plains, wetlands and woodlands. Keep an eye out for captivating bird species like the Shoebill Stork, Fish Eagle and Grey crowned Crane. You’ll also have the opportunity to spot raptors such as the Bateleur Eagle and Martial Eagle.
Day 4 – 5; Discovering Nyungwe Forest National Park
tour towards Nyungwe Forest National Park, a rainforest that bird enthusiasts consider a paradise. Dedicate two days to exploring this enchanting parks forests, bamboo thickets and swampy areas. Be on the lookout for bird species like the Great Blue Turaco Red collared Mountain Babbler and Rwenzori Turaco. Nyungwe Forest is renowned for being to Albertine Rift endemics—a true haven for passionate birdwatchers.
Day 6 – 7; Enjoying Lake Kivu
Make your way, to Lake Kivu— one of Africas Great Lakes known for its waterbirds. This serene lake offers a sanctuary where you can appreciate avian species in their natural habitat.
Spend a couple of days engaging yourself in the lakeshore and nearby wetlands. You’ll have the chance to spot bird species, like the Pied Kingfisher, African Fish Eagle and White winged Tern. Enhance your experience by taking a boat trip on the lake which allows you to get up close with the birdlife while enjoying views of the surrounding landscape.
Day 8 -9; Volcanoes National Park Birding
On days 8 and 9 venture into Volcanoes National Park renowned for its mountain gorillas and an array of captivating bird species. Explore the parks enchanting bamboo forests and higher elevation areas over a span of two days. Here you can try to catch sight of birds like the Rwenzori Batis, Rwenzori Double collared Sunbird and Ruwenzori Nightjar. While your primary focus will be on birdwatching there’s also a chance that you may encounter mountain gorillas during a gorilla trekking adventure.
On day 10 after enjoying a breakfast it will be time to bid farewell to Rwanda as you make your way back, to Kigali International Airport for your departure.
