7 Days Birding in Kenya

Day 1; Arrival, in Nairobi

When you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi our representative will greet you warmly. Take you to your accommodation. Take some time to relax and get used to the environment.

Day 2; Exploring Nairobi National Park and its Surroundings

Kickstart your birding adventure by visiting Nairobi National Park, which is situated outside the city. This park boasts a variety of habitats like grasslands, wetlands and acacia woodlands that serve as home to than 500 bird species. Keep an eye out for birds such as the Secretary Bird, Martial Eagle and the endangered African Crowned Crane. Afterward make sure to explore birding spots around Nairobi like the Nairobi National Museum or the Nairobi National Botanic Garden.

Day 3; Discovering Lake Naivasha

Head towards Lake Naivasha, a beautiful freshwater lake located in the Great Rift Valley. begin on a delightful boat safari where you can spot waterbirds including the Fish Eagle, Grey headed Gull and Great White Pelican. Make sure to explore areas like Hells Gate National Park or Crescent Island known for their avian diversity. Look out for bird species such, as the African Jacana, Malachite Kingfisher and African Fish Eagle.

Day 4; Lake Nakuru National Park

Start your tour by visiting Lake Nakuru National Park, which’s famous, for its population of flamingos and diverse bird species. Take a drive around the lake, where you’ll have the opportunity to spot flamingos, pelicans and an array of waterbirds. Keep an eye out for the endangered Rothschilds Giraffe and the elusive African Leopard. The park is also home to species such as the Marabou Stork, Yellow billed Stork and the Verreauxs Eagle.

Day 5; Kakamega Forest

Next on your itinerary is a visit to Kakamega Forest, which happens to be Kenyas rainforest. Immerse yourself in this ecosystem that teems with life including African Grey Parrots, Great Blue Turacos and the rare Turners Eremomela. begin on guided walks along forest trails while being serenaded by calls from forest birds. Don’t forget that Kakamega Forest is also a sanctuary for primates, butterflies and other fascinating wildlife.

Day 6; Maasai Mara National Reserve

Conclude your birding adventure with a trip to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. While this reserve is famous for its wildlife sightings it also offers birding opportunities. Venture on thrilling game drives in search of raptors, grassland dwelling species and birds found near wetlands. Keep an eye out for species, like the Secretary Bird, Kori Bustard and the beautiful Lilac breasted Roller.
The Mara River is a habitat, for waterbirds. Offers an excellent chance to indulge in birdwatching.

On the day it’s time to say goodbye to Kenya after having breakfast. You will be transferred back to Nairobi taking into account your flight schedule. If you have some time before your departure you can enjoy some last minute birdwatching or shop, for souvenirs.
