24 Days Birding in Kenya

Day 1; Arrival, in Nairobi

When you arrive at Nairobis Jomo Kenyatta International Airport our representative will warmly greet you. Assist with your transfer to your accommodation. Take some time to relax and get accustomed to the environment.

Day 2 – 3; Exploring Nairobi National Park and Surrounding Area

begin on a birdwatching adventure by visiting Nairobi National Park situated outside the city. This remarkable park encompasses a variety of habitats, including grasslands, wetlands and acacia woodlands providing sanctuary for over 500 species of birds. Keep an eye out for birds like the Secretary Bird, Martial Eagle and the endangered African Crowned Crane. Additionally make sure to explore birding spots within the Nairobi area such as the Nairobi National Museum or the Nairobi National Botanic Garden.

Day 4 – 5; Discovering Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park

Days 6 – 8; Lake Nakuru National Park

Days 9 – 12; Mount Kenya and Aberdare National Park

Days 13 – 16; Samburu National Reserve

Head northwards, to Samburu National Reserve—a haven known for its bird species that have adapted well to their arid surroundings.
Spend a four day adventure exploring the reserve and its incredible birding spots. Keep your eyes peeled for species, like the Somali Ostrich, Vulturine Guineafowl and the majestic Greater Kestrel. You’ll also encounter a range of raptors, including the Bateleur Eagle and the awe inspiring Martial Eagle.

Days 17 – 19; Discover the wonders of Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria

begin on a tour to Lake Baringo, a haven for bird enthusiasts with a remarkable count of over 470 recorded bird species. Over three days immerse yourself in exploring the lake and its surrounding areas catching sight of species such as the impressive Goliath Heron, iconic African Fish Eagle and even the rare Jacksons Hornbill. Don’t miss out on visiting Lake Bogoria famous for its flourishing flamingo population and natural hot springs – where you can witness captivating birds like the elegant Greater Flamingo, graceful African Spoonbill and enchanting Black necked Grebe.

Days 20 – 23; Uncover Maasai Mara National Reserves avian wonders

Conclude your thrilling birding adventure with a visit to the world renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve. While this majestic land is celebrated for its wildlife marvels it is equally renowned as a birding destination. Spend four days exploring this reserve on exciting game drives in search of magnificent raptors, charming grassland species and captivating wetland birds. Keep an eye out for creatures like the Secretary Bird striking Kori Bustard and vibrant Lilac breasted Roller. The Mara River is also teeming with a myriad of waterbirds that offer an opportunity, for birdwatchers.

Make sure you don’t miss out on the migration of wildebeest and zebras.

Day 24; Departure

After having breakfast it’s time to say farewell to Kenya as you head back, to Nairobi. If your flight allows you might have some time for a bit of birdwatching or picking up souvenirs. Our representative will take you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure.
